InnerPulse 5: every factor now gets a page of its own

Version 5 gathers everything about a single factor on one page, lets you compose your own entry rows and replaces percentage claims with comparisons you can check. All of it still fully on-device.

Hamburg, August 11, 2026 - Indie developer Marvin Blome has released version 5 of InnerPulse, his iOS app for structured mental self-reflection. Two changes define the update: every factor, be it yoga, sleep or caffeine, now has a page of its own showing how it relates to your mood over time. And the rows in the journal and questionnaire lists can be composed by the user, instead of the app growing a separate setting for every request. All data still stays on the device only, with no account and no cloud.

A tap on a factor in the analysis view now opens a page of its own. It shows how often the factor was logged, how it relates to the mood scores and which other factors frequently occur alongside it, including with a one-day offset forward or back. A separate tab collects every journal entry that mentions the factor. Until now this information was spread across several views. Each of the 111 built-in factors has also been given its own image.

The second change goes back to the most frequent request from users, which arrived in very different shapes: some wanted to see when the next questionnaire is due, others a particular date format, others something else entirely. Rather than adding a separate switch for each case, version 5 lets you fill the title and subtitle line of every entry row yourself, from building blocks such as weekday, date, time, note, or questionnaire abbreviation and due date, reordered by dragging. It lives under Settings, General.

"With a request like that, the convenient answer is to add ten switches, and then the user is staring at a jungle of settings," says Marvin Blome. "I wanted one concept that covers all of those cases and still sits in a single place. The app has to stay simple, even as it does more."

Elsewhere version 5 deliberately dials its numbers back. Interactions between factors used to be shown as a percentage, for example "300 percent more often." Now the two groups sit side by side as a direct comparison, for instance: "With low energy: on 12 of 14 days. Without: on 3 of 20 days." Weak correlations are no longer surfaced at all, and the remaining ones carry a badge rating them "Clear" or "Strong." Every statement remains an observation, not a diagnosis.

Nothing changes on the privacy side. InnerPulse needs no network endpoint of its own to work, which can be verified in minutes with standard tools like Little Snitch. 9to5Mac featured the app in its Indie App Spotlight in April 2026, describing it as "in depth, private, and on-device."

All data from version 4 is migrated locally. The follow-up version 5.1 already acts on the first round of feedback, including sortable journal lists. InnerPulse is available worldwide on the App Store for iPhone and Apple Watch, in seven languages, as a one-time purchase of 4.99 euros, with no subscription and no in-app purchases.
